The Project

Review of Virginia Electric and Power Company Groundwater Withdrawals

The County of Fauquier, Virginia, retained EGGI to review a proposal submitted by the Virginia Electric and Power Company (VEPC) to withdraw large volumes of groundwater at its Remington Combustion Turbines Facility near Bealeton, Virginia. EGGI was asked to review the results of a preliminary testing program and make recommendations to the County for an expanded groundwater testing program designed to protect neighboring wells from being adversely impacted due to excessive groundwater withdrawals. EGGI worked closely with VEPC and their consultant to design an extensive groundwater testing program that met the needs of the facility while also working to evaluate the impact of groundwater withdrawals on neighboring property owners.

Status/Results:

EGGI’s involvement in the design, implementation, and analysis of the extended pumping test program resulted in two recommended action plans: 1) the development of a Groundwater Level Monitoring Plan, to assess the impact of pumping on local groundwater levels, and 2) the development of a Groundwater Use Management Plan that manages the groundwater withdrawals at the facility.  The project received many accolades from regulators and industry representatives.
