Client project details

Clinton, ME (Wellhead Protection)

The Project

EGGI won a competitive bid on behalf of the Water District for a Wellhead Protection Demonstration project partially funded by the U.S. EPA.  EGGI was then contracted to complete the project. The following major elements were included: encouraging public participation; delineating the Wellhead Protection Area (Zone of Contribution to the well) in surficial and bedrock aquifers; estimating safe yield; reviewing water quality and existing threats to water quality; preparing a management plan to protect water quality; and a contingency plan for dealing effectively with emergency situations. A video was also prepared for distribution by EPA.

Status/Results:

The results of the project were very well received by the Water District, Town, State, and EPA.  A report of the project was highlighted in Volume 1, Number 1 of the EPA's newsletter, "The Water Source." The Town of Clinton Planning Board has called EGGI back on several occasions to review development proposals located within the wellhead protection area.
