Conway Village District, NH (Groundwater Protection / Numerical Modeling)

The Project

The Conway Village Water District, in Conway, New Hampshire, has two high-yielding, overburden Production Wells capable of supplying the Water District's water supply needs. The Water District desired to establish a Wellhead Protection Area around the two Production Wells in order to protect the integrity of this valuable resource. EGGI designed and developed a numerical groundwater flow computer model to simulate the aquifer response to pumping withdrawals and climatic conditions.  A favorable area for the installation of a new Production Well was also identified during this investigation.

Status/Results:

The numerical groundwater flow model was calibrated against existing and new data sets such that it could be confidently applied to simulate groundwater withdrawals from the aquifer. The model was successfully used to project the impact of a wide variety of pumping and climatic scenarios that enabled the Water District to plan for current and future groundwater protection efforts.
