Client project details

Paul Mellon Sports Complex (Fauquier County, Virginia)

The Project

EGGI was contracted to locate and develop groundwater resources to meet the irrigation and potable water supply needs for a new Sports Complex and Community Park Facility near Marshall, in northern Fauquier County.  This facility was, in part, funded by a 10 million dollar donation by the Paul Mellon estate.  This 88-acre project site is located in the Blue Ridge geologic province, underlain by crystalline metamorphic rocks (meta-granitic gneiss of the Marshall Formation).  EGGI was selected to conduct this investigation on the basis of how many high-yield bedrock wells we had drilled in the local region.

Status/Results:

Two wells, identified through the application of EGGI's successful groundwater exploration approach, were developed, tested, and have been approved to meet the water supply needs of the project.  Of note, EGGI's test well, which was subsequently converted to a larger-diameter irrigation production well, had an airlift yield of 600 gallons per minute (gpm) -- one of the largest producing wells in the County.  This project was deemed to be an extraordinary success by the County.
