Client project details
Loudoun County Parks & Recreation Department (Loudoun County, VA)
The Loudoun County Parks and Recreation Department awarded EGGI the contract for conducting a groundwater exploration and development program for the Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park. The Park was seeking an estimated 385,000 gpd to meet their water supply needs designed to include the irrigation of 17 recreation ball fields.
Underlain by typically very low-yielding bedrock (i.e., diabase), EGGI utilized detailed geologic mapping and geophysical surveys to identify exploratory test well sites.
A series of test wells were drilled. Airlift yields totaling 280 gpm (403,000 gpd) were intercepted by test wells drilled at the project site, indicating that groundwater could serve to meet a significant portion of the overall water needs of the Park development. Conversion of EGGI’s test wells to larger-diameter production wells increased airlift yield such that a single well produced a short-term yield of 350 gpm – the highest yielding well in the area. Long-term pumping tests were performed and a groundwater Operation/Management Plan was developed for use by the Park.
Airlift yields totaling 280 gallons per minute (gpm) (403,000 gallons per day) were intercepted by test wells drilled at the project site, indicating that groundwater could serve to meet a significant portion of the overall water needs of the Park development."
