Stinson Seafood (Town of Prospect Harbor, ME)

The Project

The water supply system supplying the Stinson Seafood fish processing facility in Prospect Harbor, Maine – that included a small pond and low-yielding bedrock well – was incapable of supplying the needs of the factory’s expanded operations. Despite the difficulties of finding high yielding wells in unpromising granite bedrock in this coastal setting, EGGI successfully identified and drilled two high yielding bedrock wells (with airlift test yields of 630 and 500 gpm, respectively). The selection of these drilling targets was accomplished by using a variety of exploratory geological mapping tools, geophysical techniques, and pumping tests.

Status/Results:

The sustainable yield of the local bedrock aquifer was determined and the wells were approved for use as a public water supply. The well sites were found to not be subject to seawater intrusion. Stinson Seafood was delighted to have developed an unexpectedly abundant supply of fresh water within reach of their facility, which allowed them to fully expand their operation.
