Town of Tenants Harbor, ME (Groundwater Exploration & Development)
The Department of Environmental Protection, having discovered a spill of fuel oil in the basement of one home in the Village of Tenants Harbor, initiated an investigation of hydrocarbon contamination in other nearby homes. Many domestic sites were found to be contaminated. EGGI was contracted by the State of Maine (DEP) to conduct a groundwater exploration program to develop a new source of water supply to serve the newly established Water District.
Geophysical surveys were completed that identified several exploratory drilling sites. Only two of these sites were drilled and well yields of 150-430 gpm were developed in this granite bedrock aquifer.
DEP subsequently hired EGGI again to work with the St. George Planning Board to develop a suitable groundwater protection ordinance to fit the needs of the community in protecting not only these public supply wells, but others in the nearby hamlet of Port Clyde. EGGI was also hired to monitor water levels and water quality in the aquifer during the first year of system startup.
The Tenants Harbor Water District and Maine DEP were extremely pleased with EGGI's groundwater development and groundwater protection work throughout the project.
